Epigastric Hernia Surgery
Why is epigastric hernia surgery done?
Epigastric hernia surgery is a procedure done to repair the bulge developed in the upper mid abdomen, as a result of
- a congenital or acquired weakness,
- a gap or opening in the muscles and tendons,
causing the protrusion of abdominal contents.
How is epigastric hernia surgery done?
- An incision is made at the hernia and the content are either
- moved back into the abdominal cavity or
- removed in case of protrusion that consists of strangulated intestines.
- The weakened tissue is then closed and strengthened either by stitching it or by reinforcing it with a plastic mesh. The incision is then sutured.
