Abdominoplasty
Why is abdominoplasty done?
Abdominoplasty or tummy tuck is a cosmetic surgery done to flatten the abdomen by removing excessive fatty tissue and loose skin from the middle and lower sections of the abdomen, and tightening the muscles of the abdominal wall.
How is abdominoplasty done?
- A long horizontal incision is made in the natural fold under the belly, from hipbone to hipbone just above the pubic area.
- A second incision is made around the umbilicus.
- The skin from the abdominal wall is separated and lifted to tighten the muscles beneath by pulling them closer and stitching them into their new position to create a narrow waistline and a firm abdominal wall.
- The skin flap is then stretched down and the excess skin and fat are removed.
- A new hole for the navel is cut and stitched into place after which all the incisions are closed.
